A major reform in keeping with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 would see Banaras Hindu University (BHU) introduce a four-year undergraduate programme dubbed UG Honours and UG Honours with Research, starting with the academic year 2024–2025.
For exceptional students, there is a unique opportunity offered by the UG Honours with Research course. A mere 10% of accepted students who possess a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 7.5 or higher will be eligible, based solely on merit. With this concept, research opportunities are integrated into the four-year undergraduate course, allowing students to graduate directly into PhD programmes without the requirement for a second master’s degree.
A postgraduate degree is not required for admission to the PhD courses for students who finish BHU’s UG Honours with Research programme. Students can choose from a wide range of minor course options under the prescribed plan. The curriculum will include a wider variety of educational activities. It would be expected of students to enrol in courses related to ability enhancement, multidisciplinary studies, value-added courses, and skill enhancement, as well as internships. Those pursuing undergraduate honors with research will complete their thesis during the last semester.
