Haryana Police displace farmers’ protests with tear gas using drones

In the Hisar district’s Khedi Chopta, the Haryana Police fired tear gas shells by drones on protesting farmers, while reports from the region said that about a dozen of them, including farmer leader Suresh Koth, are being held. The farmers had been supporting those demonstrating on the Punjab-Haryana border by sitting on a dharna near Khedi Chopta. According to sources of information, they intended to increase the border unrest by moving towards the Punjab border at Khanauri. But when the police attempted to stop them, there was a fight. A Supreme Court appeal claims that the Centre and some states have violated the rights of “peacefully protesting” farmers. The demonstrators were allegedly subjected to enforced arrests by several state governments, and the Centre unjustly used prohibitory measures, including blocking social media accounts, diverting traffic, and closing highways.

It reported farmers had suffered severe wounds as a result of “aggressive and violent measures” used by the governments of Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh, including the use of tear gas, rubber bullets, and pellets.
