The Secret of Kamakhya Temple

One of the most ancient and renowned locations for Tantric rituals, the Kamakhya Temple at Nilachal Hills in Guwahati, Assam, is devoted to the goddess Kamakhya. The temple is the hub of the Kulachara Tantra Marga and the location of the yearly event known as the Ambubachi Mela, which honours the goddess’ menstrual cycle.[4] The temple’s ultimate hybrid architecture, which defines a regional style known as Nilachal, is dated structurally to the eighth or ninth century and underwent several rebuilds in the years that followed. In the Shakta tradition, it is also one of the four oldest pithas out of fifty-one. It was a little-known house of worship for most of recorded history, but in the 19th century, when colonial control was in effect, it grew in importance as a pilgrimage site, particularly for those from Bengal.
